Job Vacancy - Geotechnical Manager

You will be working for the largest site investigation contractor in Ireland, based in their Head Quarters in Ballymoney, Co Antrim. You will be responsible for the technical management of ground investigation contracts undertaken by the company; to provide guidance and support to the team of Geotechnical Engineers; to implement quality control measures in terms of information reported to Clients; preparation and development of Interpretative Ground Investigation Reports of varying complexity; scoping ground investigations with Clients; ensure Clients’ technical requirements are met.

MAIN TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

• Technical lead of a team of Geotechnical Engineers/Engineering Geologists in an office-based environment to produce Ground Investigation Reports

• Prepare Factual and Interpretative Ground Investigation Reports, with a strong leaning towards focusing on interpretation of collated data

• Work alongside a team of Project Managers to provide technical lead on development and issue of technical information and Reports

• Implement quality control systems to improve the standard of information prepared and collated on site, through to the information issued to Clients. Work to continuously improve the standard of the Ground Investigation Reports, the Company’s typical final product

• Report to the Contracts Director regarding quality and technical performances on contracts – both personnel and operations

• Provide training and mentoring for Graduate/Junior Engineers and Geologists

• Work with the Laboratory Manager and assist with developing the geotechnical testing capabilities of the laboratory by way of improvement and expansion of facilities

• As and when required, carry out all other roles listed in job description for Geotechnical Engineer / Project Manager.

REQUIRED CRITERIA:
• Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology, with post-graduate qualification or experience in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the industry (either in a consultancy or contracting background)
• Good technical knowledge in the field of geotechnical engineering
• Ability to produce accurate, concise, well-presented reports within deadlines
• Familiarity with the current ground investigation standards and their implementation
• Good IT and communication skills
• Ability to use AGS data
• Familiarity with geotechnical software packages, such as Holebase SI / Gint (or similar), SLIDE, SlopeW, WALLAP
• Full UK/Ireland driving licence

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
• Chartered Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist (ICE / IEI / FGS / IGI)
• Experience of slope stability, earthworks, foundation and retaining wall design
• Experience of construction supervision

Rotary fleet expands with acquisition of two new drilling rigs

Causeway Geotech are delighted to announce the expansion of our drilling fleet through the acquisition of two new rotary rigs. A Mercedes Unimog mounted Beretta T44 and a Hanjin D&B 8W tracked rig broaden our capabilities for carrying out deep geotechnical rotary drilled boreholes, including by Geobor S wireline methods.

With the addition of these rigs to our fleet, we are very much at the forefront of resource capabilities for geotechnical drilling in Ireland.

Causeway Geotech commence A6 Castledawson to Randalstown Final Design Ground Investigation

Causeway Geotech have been appointed by Graham Farrans JV to carry out the final design phase ground investigation for the A6 Castledawson to Randalstown Ground Investigation.

The scheme will involve some 74 cable percussion boreholes, 42 rotary boreholes by Geobor S wireline coring, 144 dynamic probes by DPSH method, 8 static cone penetration tests, installation of specialised geotechnical instrumentation including vibrating wire piezometers and magnetic extensometers, and the drilling of a large diameter abstraction well and execution of pump test in same.

The scheme will see up to 10 crews working concurrently over the 9 week site works programme.

Brian Mooney joins Causeway Geotech as Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Brian has 20 years’ experience working in the piling and ground investigation industry. He has had roles ranging from Graduate site engineer, Auditor, Drugs and alcohol testing officer, Design Engineer, Geotechnical engineer, Estimator, Senior proposals engineer, Logistics and Purchasing manager, Temporary works design manager and Technical Design Manager with the majority of his experience gained in the piling and foundations industry.

Brian joins the team to bolster the Geotechnical Department and bring his expertise in pile design to the company’s repertoire.

Alasdair Revie joins the company

Alasdair has 20+ years experience working in the site investigation and construction materials testing arena. He has fulfilled the roles of driller, laboratory technician, HSE Manager, Logistics/Equipment Manager, Quality Manager and Technical Manager of a public sector UKAS accredited testing laboratory.

Causeway Geotech awarded A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvements GI Contract

Causeway Geotech are delighted to announce that they have been awarded, via the Integrated Delivery Team (comprising Skanska/Costain JV and Balfour Beatty/Carillion JV, with Atkins/C2HM acting as the Design Team) the prestigious A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvements Ground Investigation contract.

The contract will see a variery of exploratory techniques, including dynamic sampling, light cable percussion boring, static cone penetration tests, Geobor S wireline rotary coring and trial pitting carried out throughout the duration of the scheme.

The site works are due to commence in May 2016 and are likely to last for approximately 6 months.

It is anticipated that there will be up to 12 crews working concurrently once all land access has been made available to the Contractor.

Vacancy: Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist

Causeway Geotech Ltd is one of Ireland’s largest site investigation service providers. Due to an increase in workload we have are now looking to recruit a Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist to join our expanding engineering department.

The successful candidate will be qualified with a Civil Engineering or Geology related degree and have a strong understanding of site investigations techniques and geotechnical recommendations. Previous site investigation experience will also be an advantage. The role will be primarily office based.

Reporting to the Geotechnical Manager, you will be accountable for overseeing delivery of geotechnical data for a wide range of civil & structural engineering projects. Additionally the work will involve the writing of desk study reports, reviewing, interpreting and presenting geotechnical data, site supervision, the writing and preparation of factual and interpretative reports and geotechnical design reports. You will provide technical assistance to the junior and senior members of staff to deliver geotechnical solutions for our wide ranging client base.

Essential Criteria:
• BSc/BEng degree level qualified in Geology/Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering or
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the sector
• Understanding of laboratory testing and interpreting results with working knowledge of geotechnical and environmental guidance, BS10175.
• Experience in preparing interpretative ground investigation reports and ability to check reports to a high standard
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent numerical skills using own calculations and using industry software
• Prepared to work as part of a team or as an individual
• Full UK/ROI driving licence.

Desirable Criteria:
• Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE or MIEI) or actively working towards Chartered status

Vacancy: Plant Maintenance Manager

We are a Site Investigation Company seeking to recruit a Plant Maintenance Manager to join our existing team. We operate and maintain an array of drilling rigs and ancillary plant and equipment.

Reporting to:
This is a key role within the team and the Plant Maintenance Manager will report to the Operations Director.

Responsibility:
The Plant Maintenance Manager will be responsible for reactive and preventive maintenance. The Plant Maintenance Manager will have a focus on improving production processes for maximum efficiency.

Job Duties:
• Coordination of maintenance team to complete planned or unplanned maintenance and repairs with minimum downtime.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programme.
• Maintain records of maintenance and repairs carried out
• Manage procurement and control of engineering spare parts and consumables; devise systems to effectively control stock levels.
• Where necessary organise and supervise external contractors to carry out repairs and maintenance
• Assist with identifying and developing solutions to operational or technical problems and to progress appropriate solutions when required.
• Assist with accreditation and ongoing compliance with relevant standards and certification.
• Liaising with operations and engineering departments to assist with effective communication
• Ensure effective workshop housekeeping and the maintenance of plant and equipment in accordance with legislative Health & Safety requirements.
• To contribute to implementing new working methods and actively participate in continuous improvement
• When necessary assist with maintenance and repairs

Essential Criteria:
• Five years’ experience in a similar working environment
• Engineering related qualification
• Procurement experience

FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT APPOINTMENT

Causeway Geotech Ltd has cemented their reputation as Northern Ireland’s leading site investigation provider by securing Lot 1 – Northern Area of the CPD Pan Government Collaborative Framework Agreement for Geotechnical Site Investigation Works. The contract has an estimated value of services of £800,000 over the 4 year framework period.

The provision of services relates to the completion of Geotechnical Site Investigation works to Government Clients as and when required, throughout the period of the contract. The contract will include all site investigation works, sample testing and production of factual and interpretative reports.

It is anticipated that around 120 boreholes will be required per annum per Lot. The site investigations will be carried out to aid the design of schemes associated with buildings, structures, roads, infrastructure/site development, water supply, sewerage schemes and environmental/contamination reports.

Geo-environmental/Geotechnical Engineer

Stephen Franey joins Causeway Geotech

Stephen has over 13 years experience in the U.K. and Ireland in geo-environmental site investigation & consultancy contributing professionally to a diverse range of projects with involvement from concept to solution delivery.

Specialist skills and experience include design, execution and management of desk top appraisals, due diligence appraisals, geo-environmental site investigations, qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, ground gas monitoring & assessments, environmental monitoring & modelling and remediation design and implementation of cost effective, sustainable solutions. Stephen has been highly involved with regulatory consultations in relation to sites affected by land contamination, particularly through the Planning Process. Other experience includes landfill restoration (capping, drainage and landgas mitigation design) and completion of soil and groundwater chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).

Stephen will be a very valuable asset to our engineering team and his addition signals our intent to provide a quality service to our Environmental customers.
