Causeway Geotech expand Drilling Fleet

Causeway Geotech’s drilling fleet has again expanded, with us taking delivery of our fourth roto-sonic rig from Royal Eijkelkamp. The rig has been put straight to work at a challenging site in Dublin for an ongoing framework contract. This Eijkelkamp Fraste CRS XL140 Duo Royal Edition is equipped with the various options we have found, through experience of using our other sonic rigs, to be hugely beneficial from a work efficiency, quality and safety perspective.

The unit, equipped with a 150Hz frequency sonic head, is extremely capable in drilling through significant thickness of soils. We have tooled it with Geobor S wireline rotary casing for follow-on coring operations. The rig is set-up to carry out cone penetration testing with the added option of drill-outs, to allow CPTs at depth, or to drill beyond CPT refusal, allowing for a more complete ground profile at any exploratory hole.

This continued investment in the best drilling technology available allows us to provide our clients with the best quality ground information in our challenging and variable geology in land and marine environments, while also providing our valued drillers with the very best tools available for performing their job.

“Continued renewal of our drilling fleet is key to maintaining the best standard of plant, which in turn improves reliability, leading onto greater efficiency and ultimately a better product for our valued clients,” says Darren O’Mahony, Director.  “We are committed to providing our valued drillers with not only the highest standards of training available, but also the very best tools to perform their job.  It is only right and fair that this approach is carried through to the fundamental principle of continually investing in new plant and equipment.”

“Attracting new drillers to our industry is an often discussed issue, and one which we are fully aware of.  By being able to provide new talent with the best available plant and equipment for drilling geotechnical boreholes, it becomes a much easier position to fill.  In fact, we’re now in the position where we have more and more drillers looking to get the opportunity to operate these rigs, which is why we are developing an internal upskilling programme to allow drillers from other land drilling disciplines in our company the opportunity to, through time, progress onto these fantastic machines,” continued Causeway Drilling Manager, Neil Gowdy.

Thank you again to Royal Eijkelkamp for their excellent service in delivering this rig in an expedited time frame, a reflection of our ongoing excellent relationship and mutual trust. As we continue to expand, we welcome applications from talented people in our sector to join our brilliant team.
